Working on the Olympics is very special and I feel very fortunate to have worked on each games since Sydney 2000. Many of my friends and colleagues who have also delivered multiple games, as a rule, share the same level of commitment and passion to deliver the next.
However from my experience, the biggest challenge after the operational delivery is returning to a business as usual role, back in a “normal” job. This is the only event I have worked on to date where I have not found myself thinking that the “grass over there looks much greener!”. As I have shared on many occasions in presentations and workshops, it is so important to enjoy the journey, no matter what position you are in and if you can find the role that stops you looking for the next, then well done you!
