19 days to go! And a kids perspective…

It is so interesting to look at the games from a kids perspective. At lunch today with friends and their two boys, four and seven years old, we were peppered with questions regarding everything Olympic. For a pleasant change, the kids were not interested in sport politics, doping scandals and issues with venue delivery, they simply wanted to know; how does it all work? how fast do the BMX riders go? what happens when they crash? and what if the arrow misses the target? So refreshing to get back to basics!

My first games experience as a child was the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia, and the first event my family took me to see was Track Cycling at the Chandler Velodrome. It was so awe-inspiring to watch Kendrick Tucker race for his second gold, and I am sure it’s part of the reason I keep coming back games after games.

Happy 19 days to go!
