Wow! Colour, culture and carnival! What a truly wonderful start to the games, and I feel so proud to be here in Rio with this team who have made it happen.
Some of you will note that I didn’t make my post last night, and for those of you who waited up all night for it, I apologise. 🙂 However I did have a pretty good reason, it was the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, and this was a show I was not going to miss! And I have to admit it, for me it was the best yet! Not only because I was able to share it with my wonderful wife, but also, with my closest Carioca family and surrounded by so many of the special people how have made this games possible. To say it was emotional is a slight understatement. And for many reasons I am still overwhelmed by the experience of being in Maracanã, watching the athletes enter, the flag and flame arrive, the cauldron lit and the spectacular of the event itself. Loved every minute of it!
The first day of competition saw 21 sports go live around the world simultaneously, and may those of you around the world enjoy each and every amazing moment.
Happy day one!
