Hitting the wall. When running a marathon there is a point most people reach at about one-third to three-quarters of the race where it can literally feel like you’ve smacked straight into a pile of bricks!
During my one and only marathon I hit the wall at about mile 18, and it was with a thud! First half of the marathon was at great pace and at half way I was well on target to hit my dream finish time. Then smack, where did my legs go?!? My body just said no way! However, the magical power of the mind and probably a little bit of the three months of training kicked in and another two hours later I “ran” across the Finish line. (5:07 for those curious to know!) It was certainly then and remains one of the best things I have ever completed.
During this relentless last phase of the project, many people are hitting the “delivery wall”, I know I am really starting to feel it in my “mental legs”. BUT…we are almost there, and for those of you working here in Rio, know that it’s not much further to go and you will finish this race! It’s going to be an amazing games!
Happy five days to go!
